Dove on why he seamlessly fit into Chiefs unfamiliar role
Mozambican defender Edmilson Dove has explained why he has seamlessly fit into his unfamiliar role at Kaizer Chiefs.
Dove joined Chiefs during the pre-season, with indications he would slot in at his usual left-back position.
However, with Sifiso Hlanti doing well on the left, the former Cape Town City defender has slotted in on the left side of defence, giving Chiefs a bit of balance in their backline.
After receiving two successive man-of-the-match accolades, he has stressed the need to adapt as a footballer.
“As a football player, you must be able to adapt to any position. I have been used in that role before at Cape Town City, so it is not new to me,” Dove told the media at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“Every day, we learn, and of course, I was given that role which I took without thinking twice. Because what matters the most is what the team gains out of that.”
The 29-year-old credited the excellent relationships among players for his quick adaptation.
“It was great, and I have guys helping me, Njabulo Ngcobo, Siyabonga Ngezana and other natural centre-backs.
“The communication has been better, it has been great, and I can only thank the coach [Arthur Zwane] for giving me an opportunity.”
Dove hopes to continue his excellent run against Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening.
A win would take Chiefs to pole position above defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, Sundowns, who progressed to the CAF Champions League group stages on Friday, will have two games in hand.
But such a jump could motivate the Amakhosi family to push and challenge for honours this season.
Zwane has repeatedly said it was important for the team to continue grinding results while they rebuild the team.
