Egypt publication reacts to Ahly’s loss by posting Mosimane’s picture

Leading Egyptian publication KingFut has piled coal on the fire ignited by Al Ahly’s 2-1 loss to rivals Zamalek on Thursday by posting former coach Pitso Mosimane’s trademark ‘salute picture’.

The picture of Mosimane saluting with South Africa’s flag draped around his shoulders has once again ignited an angry reaction from some Al Alhy fans, who have attacked the team’s legends, who they believe influenced the coach’s resignation.

“Ahly legends, who’s the problem now?” a fan calling himself iTsDark tweeted after Al Ahly’s Egyptian Cup final defeat.

Wiigh Masak jnr chipped in, saying: “Where are the legend now?

The response from Xman was simple but sarcastic: “Is Pitso still the problem?”

However, Livhu had no time for diplomacy, he wrote: “What now? Where are the Legends?

“Warra useless football club without Pitso Al Ahly is finished,” Timor Nxce tweeted. “They won’t win anything this season.”

A supporter with a South African name Tshegofatso Sebothoma has since advised Al Ahly to swallow their pride and recall Mosimane.

“…put your pride aside and admit that Mosimane was your main man. I mean, there’s still a chance to get him back. All you need to do is to pray to your Allah that your management brings Mosimane back and stop with your racism,” he posted on the Ahly Facebook page.

It was the second defeat in five games of two wins and one draw across all competitions for Mosimane’s Portuguese successor Ricardo Soares across all competitions.

Al Ahly also lost 2-0 to Pyramids in a domestic league match last week and lies in third place on the log table, nine points behind leaders Zamalek, albeit with two games in hand.

Mosimane left Al Ahly after the 2-0 loss to Wydad Athletic in the CAF Champions League final months ago after having won the continental silverware twice on the bounce since his switch from Mamelodi Sundowns two years ago.

However, despite the impressive track record that included Fifa Club World Cup bronze medals, some Al Ahly legends were quick to bash Mosimane’s tactics, saying he was making the team inferior in its approach to games.

Some fans have since apologised to the former Bafana Bafana mentor for being too harsh on him, saying he was, in actual fact, masking the team’s deep-rooted deficiencies.
