South Africa head coach Desiree Ellis has announced her Banyana Banyana final squad for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) set to take place in Morocco.
The much-anticipated tournament will kick off on Saturday, 2 July – Saturday, 23 July 2022.
Ellis streamed her 33-member preliminary squad to a 23-woman squad, with three players on standby.
The preliminary squad had reported for camp in Johannesburg on Friday, 10 June 2022.
Linda Motlhalo and Hildah Magaia will join the team in Morocco.
Banyana are in Group C, alongside rivals Nigeria, Neighbours Botswana and debutants Burundi.
South Africa will play their first match against Nigeria on July 4 in Rabat. The two-time Caf Women’s Coach of the Year’s side lost to the Super Falcons on penalties in the last AWCON tournament held in Ghana.
The team is expected to depart for the competition on Tuesday, 21 June.
