Former Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari has described his first coaching job back home in Zimbabwe with Ngezi Platinum FC as difficult but interesting in the same vein.
“It is difficult from playing to becoming a coach,” the former Jomo Cosmos forward said. The former Zimbabwe’s Warriors player said coaching was a totally different domain from playing.
“This is my first job as you know. I went to the national team for one or two weeks…so far so good. It has been interesting especially when you enjoy [the job] and that is the key,” he said.
The former Portsmouth striker said he owed his success with the team so far to his players’ attitude. “If the boys didn’t listen to me I would have left a long time ago. They are keeping me busy here and I am also keeping them busy which is interesting,” Mwaruwari said.
Mwaruwari played for Cosmos in South Africa at the turn of the century before breaking through the rough and tumble of European football with Switzerland as his entry point.
He eventually wound up his playing career back in South Africa at Bidvest Wits before venturing into coaching first as an assistant with the Warriors and now at Platinum.
Platinum are in position six with 25 points from 16 games on the 18-member log table, seven points adrift of leaders Chicken Inn.
