Given Msimango reveals how he felt about Chiefs link

Highly-rated TS Galaxy defender Given Msimango has revealed how he felt about being linked to Kaizer Chiefs.

The talented defender’s name was widely reported to be on Chiefs’ wanted list before Galaxy offered him a contract extension.

Amakhosi are currently on a rebuild which saw them get rid of 10 players, including veteran centre-backs Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Daniel Cardoso, a position Msimango has excelled in for Galaxy and Highlands Park.

“To be honest, when the rumour started, obviously a big club like that requiring your service even though it was a rumour, it gets you excited.

“It gets you to a mental space where you feel like you’ve done well and you are recognised for your work,” the 25-year-old said.

The Rockets captain further disclosed the steps he took after hearing the news, adding there was truth to the talk, although the Soweto giants never acted upon their interest.

“The professional side of me just said find out from the right people, the chairman, my agent to find out how true was it and there was truth to it, but no further steps were taken,” he told TS Galaxy’s Podcast.
The former South Africa Under 23 international made his topflight debut with the now defunct Highlands Park in the 2017/18 campaign. The Brakpan-born centre-back established himself as one of the best defenders in the league, which saw him make 17 appearances in the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season and score one goal.

That one goal handed them a 1-0 win over Chippa United in their last DStv Premiership match of the season, ensuring they lived to fight another day in the topflight.

The towering defender will be looking to put the disappointment of failing to finalise a move to Naturena behind him ahead of the upcoming season. The Rockets face AmaZulu in their opening DSTV Premiership match on the 7th of August at Mbombela Stadium.
