Malesela irked after losing to ‘beatable’ Chiefs

Marumo Gallants coach Dan Malesela was an unhappy man following their 1-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday evening in the DStv Premiership encounter describing the game as their “worst ever”.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa aimed to get back to winning ways after registering back-to-back draws with SuperSport and Swallows.

“A game of so many errors, we’ve never played like this before. This is our worst performance ever. With no disrespect, but against a beatable team. We could not pass the ball, and our choices were bad. I don’t think there is much we did right. Our defending was shaky, and I thought the players are stronger than that,” Malesela said.

He warned his charges that if they continued with the lacklustre performances, they would struggle in the Nedbank Cup final, where they face Mamelodi Sundowns later this month.

“We cannot be carried away by qualifying for the final (Nedbank Cup); we got to prepare ourselves for the final and win matches. If this is the preparation, we’ll be in big trouble.”

The former Chippa United coach admitted that it would be difficult for the club to finish in the top eight because of tricky games ahead.

“Our next three games are tough; we have Golden Arrows, Sekhukhune and TS Galaxy. Our chances of finishing in the top eight are getting slimmer. We’ll try and see where we can go.”

Gallants are 11th on the log table with 31 points from 27 matches.
