Masango slams clubs for overpricing players when Chiefs target them

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Mandla Masango has slammed some PSL clubs for overpricing players when Amakhosi targets them.

Masango advises the Soweto giants not to be held at ransom by clubs demanding exorbitant fees for average players. He believes in most instances, it doesn’t “balance the books.”

This comes after Chiefs failed to reach an agreement with several clubs in the South African football top-flight. Some of the players in question include the Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Sipho Mbule and Teboho Mokoena, and Victor Letsoalo.

The latter ended up at Sekhukhune United with a transfer fee significantly lower than Royal AM’s reported asking price.

MASANGO’S VIEWS ON THE MATTER

“Sometimes it is difficult for teams like Kaizer Chiefs’ calibre when they want to buy a player,” he told journalists.

“The clubs tend to overprice them. Then tomorrow, we say Chiefs don’t want to do this and that.

“At the end of the day, we must not think only from football’s point of view but also in business terms. And ask ourselves questions like does it balance the books if one does this?

THE PLAYERS MASANGO WOULD HAVE LOVED CHIEFS TO SIGN

“So, there are players who I would have loved for Chiefs to sign. For example, they should have signed Teboho Mokoena, but he was overpriced for Chiefs. So, that’s why he ended up at Mamelodi Sundowns.

The ex-SuperSport United man continued: “Also, they should have signed Sipho Mbule, but the move failed. And also the player who just recently joined them [Sundowns] from Cape Town City, Terrence Mashego. They should have signed him as well.”

However, some of the PSL clubs have come to their defence, stating that they had never received any written offer from the Glamour Boys whenever rumours of this nature made the headlines nationwide.
