Mosimane’s man linked with Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs have continued their rebuild ahead of the new season, and the Soweto giants are being linked with one of Pitso Mosimane’s men, specialist coach Musi Matlaba.

Matlaba is the former head of analysis at Al Ahly, who worked with Mosimane at Mamelodi Sundowns and in Cairo.

FARPost sources on Wednesday said Amakhosi were looking to add him to their new-look technical team led by Arthur Zwane.

The news comes just as the club suspended analyst Sinesipho Mali, who is set to appear before a disciplinary committee on Thursday. According to sources, Mali faces dismissal.

The 34-year-old Matlaba comes with a rich profile after winning two CAF Champions League titles with Ahly and the third with Sundowns.

The Mahikeng-born analyst joined Downs in 2012, the same year Mosimane took over the club and has won multiple trophies with the man nicknamed ‘Jingles’.

In October 2020, he was one of three technical staff members handpicked by Mosimane to join him at Al Ahly, alongside fitness trainer Kabelo Rangoaga and Cavin Johnson. He has been unattached since leaving the club with Mosimane last month.

His job in Egypt entailed running the analysis department, whose main objective was to know Ahly’s opponents and analyse them. The internal analysis looked at where the Cairo giants needed to improve as a team and educating players on the club’s philosophy and style.

They also looked at world trends in football tactics with an intention to implement certain aspects.

Interestingly, he initially studied to become a geologist before quitting in his final year to switch to sports science at the University of Pretoria in 2010.
