My intention is to play for Twente

A South African midfielder continues to train with his former club.

Kamohelo Mokotjo is edging closer to completing his move to FC Twente as he continues to train with the Dutch Eredivisie side who have started their pre-season ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The anchor was meant to sign with the club in January, but he suffered an injury which delayed the deal, but Twente’s sporting director Jan Streuer recently clarified that if the player is fit, he is one of their best options for this summer.

“The intention when he came here was that he was fit around March. That was not the case. Now he will have to be fit and show that he is top fit to be eligible for a contract.

“He knows exactly what the situation is. If he’s fit, he’s a very good player for us. That’s the situation.

“We’re going to see what we’re going to do when he’s really fit. He’s definitely a serious option.”

Speaking to the club’s official website, the 31-year-old has also spoken about his situation at the Dutch club saying there is an understanding between the two parties – he also explained his injury situation.

“Right now I’m here, my sole intention is to come back and play for FC Twente.

“I don’t think it was a strain smash (being injured) for myself or Twente because we have plans – those plans could benefit both parties so it’s good that I’m here and I’m getting stronger.

“This is the place where I want to have a few more years, I feel I can bring the experience that I have to help them.

“Rehab is not a pleasant thing to do, it’s been challenging but we also see the results. You also see yourself coming back to your normal self.”
