Origi edges closer to Serie A switch

Divock Origi is edging closer to completing his move to AC Milan after leaving Liverpool.

The Belgian forward is one of seven senior players who have left Anfield after their deals expired with the Premier League side.

Origi had interest from several clubs around Europe, but opted to join the Italian champions who are looking to add more options to their forward line for the 2022/23 campaign.

Milan clinched the 2021/22 Serie A title ahead of arch-rivals Inter Milan who were hot on their heels towards the end of the season.

Reports coming out of Italy indicate that the deal will be done in the coming days with Origi already in Milan to complete his medicals.

At Liverpool, Origi won a number of trophies including the Uefa Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup.

His most heroic spell came in 2019 when he scored twice in the Champions League semi-final against FC Barcelona to help the club reach the final against Tottenham Hotspur.

To add to his brace against Barca, the 27-year-old netted the winning goal as Liverpool narrowly defeated Tottenham 1-0 in the final to lift the prestigious European trophy.

Overall, the striker scored 45 goals in 175 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, with some of the goals listed as the most important in the club’s history.
