Plymouth Argyle boss hails Zimbabwean defender

Plymouth Argyle boss Steven Schumacher has heaped praise on Zimbabwe left-back Brendan Galloway for his resilience and character after enduring a long lay-off due to a serious knee injury. The former Everton defender dislocated his kneecap last year in November and was ruled out of the Africa Cup of Nations that was staged in Cameroon.

As Galloway returned to the field of play albeit on a losing note at the hands of Peterborough United in the Carabao Cup, coach Schumacher took time to praise the steady defender.

“He is such such a good player when he’s fit, and we’re just made up to have him back,” Schumacher said as quoted BBC.

“He was outstanding for us at the start of last season, he was one of our most consistent and best players until he got injured.

“He’s had a real tough journey to get back, and to have him on the pitch. The fans appreciated him being back.

Schumacher added: “He knows how important he is for us, he knows what he brings, the attributes that he’s got.

“He is a great lad, you want him to do so well because he is a brilliant professional, so I’m made up that he’s back.

“Prior to his agonizing injury, Galloway had scored two goals in 16 appearances in all competitions and coach Schumacher is hoping the player will replicate that good vein of form.

Meanwhile, the former England Under 21 defender signed a 18-month contract extension while he was injured to keep him at the club until June next year.

Galloway however returns to full fitness  at a time when Zimbabwe is suspended from International football.

Sadly, there seems to be no solution in sight following the impasse between the Zimbabwe Football Association and the government arm, Sports and Recreation Commission.
