Richards Bay welcomes two new goalkeepers

DStv Premiership newcomers Richards Bay have announced the arrival of two new goalkeepers into their squad ahead of the new season.

The KwaZulu Natal side have made 12 signings in total following the announcement of 10 new players last month.

Yamela Mbuthuma (Thohoyandou FC), Thulani Gumede (Royal Coastal FC), Micheal Gumede (Golden Arrows), Matome Mabeba (TS Sporting), Sibusiso Mthethwa (Stellenbosch FC), Ndiviwe Mdabuka (Cape Town All Stars), Sanele Barns (AmaTuks), Abel Mabasa (loan from Orlando Pirates), Siyanda Dlamini (Uthongathi) and Nkanyiso Zungu (loan from Orlando Pirates) were all roped into the team.

The Natal Rich boys as they are affectionately known to their fans have now confirmed the capture of two goalkeepers Neil Boshoff and Omar Salim Magoola.

“We would like to take this opportunity and confirm the signings of Goalkeeper Neil Boshoff, who was on the books of AmaZulu FC and Ugandan international Goalkeeper Omar Salim Magoola,” the club said in a statement on Friday.

Neil Boshoff

The club was strongly linked with Zimbabwean international and Baroka goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze but it looks like the talks broke down at the last minute.

Magoola was signed from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Pretoria Callies. The 27-year-old also had a stint at Sudanese giants Al-Hilal between 2018 and 2021. He joined Hilal from their rivals Al-Merrikh where he spent four seasons. Magoola also played for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Express FC in his native country of Uganda.

Boshoff (26) on the other hand was in the books of Richards Bay neighbours AmaZulu. He joined Usuthu in 2016 but struggled for game time. In the five seasons, Boshoff only managed to play 15 times, most of the games coming during the 2019/20 season where he played 10 times.

Richards Bay have also appointed former AmaZulu and Cape Town City assistant coach Vasili Manousakis as the technical adviser.
