Romain Folz: ‘AmaZulu players are not ready’

AmaZulu coach Romain Folz says he is working on the fitness of Usuthu players because most of them were not ready physically.

Folz said this when giving an update on how AmaZulu are making the most of the DStv Premiership break amid the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

ROMAIN FOLZ EXPLAINS WHY AMAZULU STRUGGLE

“I felt like most of our players were not ready physically,” said Folz.

The Frenchman, who took charge of Usuthu in October this year, said it was difficult for his team to play better due to their physical condition.

“….when you face a [Sundowns] team that is good on the ball, you must make sure you play well and move the ball very quickly,” Folz said.

The former Marumo Gallants coach spoke to AmaZulu website to reflect on his reign of six competitive matches of one win, four draws and one loss.

The coach described the DStv Premiership break as a blessing in disguise.

“We will be better after the break as we will improve during the FIFA [World Cup] break,” the former Township Rollers added.

Folz replaced Brandon Truter at AmaZulu, and the Frenchman says he noted that Usuthu were on a downward spiral.

“When I came here, my priority was to stop the sequence of defeats at the club and try to get everyone in a state of mind to understand they can be solid as a unit, and that’s one of the things I will be working on during the break,” Folz added.

AMAZULU FC LEFT-BACK RIAAN HANAMUB REACTS

AmaZulu FC left-back Riaan Hanamub has since told the website that the squad is ready for the season’s resumption.

“Obviously, we are all happy to be back, and we missed each other so much. We couldn’t wait to see each other,” said Hanamub.

“The mood in the camp is high, we can’t wait to get our bodies in shape and the league to resume.”

The 27-year-old Hanamub added: “We are obviously coming back from a break and our physical condition is not where it was before we left for the break.

“But we are definitely pushing to get our bodies in shape.”

AmaZulu’s last match was in the Carling Black Label Cup as they were eliminated by Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals on November 12.

Usuthu meet Sekhukhune United on December 31 in Polokwane when the DStv Premiership resumes.
