Stellies in talks with Zitha Kwinika’s potential replacement

Vusi Sibiya has part ways with Baroka FC and is free to join any club of his choice. Sibiya was left with a year on his contract with the relegated side, and an agreement was reached this week to release him.

“The chairman and I agreed to terminate the contract, so I’m busy looking for a team. I’m a free agent,” the 27-year-old defender told FARPost.

According to Stellenbosch sources, the club has singled him out as a potential replacement for Zitha Kwinika, who is on his way to Kaizer Chiefs.

Like Kwinika, the big defender, who turns 28 next month, possesses the hallmarks of an intelligent defender. He is confident on the ball and has good organisational skills at the back.

“He is seen as someone who can guide the youngsters in the team. You’ll notice he is always central to his team’s build-ups from the back,” the Stellies source said. The Cape Town club part ways with several senior players and will likely want to have an experienced defender next to 20-year-old Athenkosi Mcaba.

The Soshanguve-born star joined Bakgaga in 2018 from Varsity Football side Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and quickly rose to become the fulcrum of the club’s defence.

“I was inexperienced when I joined Baroka, coming straight from Varsity Football, but I’ve grown tremendously over the last four seasons. I feel I’m ready for a new challenge,” he added.
