Super League wrap: Downs Ladies reclaim top spot in style

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies responded to JVW FC’s challenge over the weekend as they thrashed Thunderbirds Ladies 5-1 to reclaim the top spot, having been leapfrogged by the ‘Blue Diamonds’ for the past two weeks.

JVW’s 2-all draw against Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) saw them drop to the second place on the table. This was Musah Arthur’s side second draw in a row.

The red hot Brazilians are on the summit of the Super League log standings with 18 points, just one point adrift of second-placed JVW.

Banyana Ba Style head coach Jerry Tshabalala believes that they need to manage their squad well to maintain their dominance in the national women’s league, hence they made nine changes from their squad that played against TUT in the Tshwane Derby a week ago.

“With Hollywoodbets Super League matches coming in thick and fast, right calls and cautions for different matches have to be exercised and well implemented,” said Tshabalala.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) humiliated struggling Golden Ladies 5-1 at home in another mouthwatering fixture, whilst Coal City Wizards crashed City Lads 5-0 on their turf.

Meanwhile, the University of the Western Cape (UWC) returned to winning ways after defeating Limpopo-based outfit First Touch FC with an impressive 3-0 scoreline.
