Swallows winger eager to leave

Swallows winger Moeketsi Makhanya has reportedly grown frustrated with a lack of game time at the club and is eager to leave the club, writes Robert Matakanye.

The winger is reportedly desperately looking for a way to get out of his contract with the Dube Birds. Moeketsi Makhanya did not make a single appearance for Swallows last season and only featured four times in the 2020/21 campaign.

The 22-year-old was outstanding during his stint with JDR Stars, catching the interest of some of the PSL’s big clubs. At some point, he was even dubbed ‘the next Percy Tau’ after tearing teams apart in the ABC Motsepe League playoffs.

FARPost has gathered that the winger is ruing his move to The Birds, which has not gone as he had hoped. Sources close to Makhanya have revealed that his frustration has become evident to everyone, and he has clarified that he is looking for a way to leave the club.

“He just wants to play football like any other footballer. He feels he needs to go where he will get a chance to prove himself. At JDR, he showed what he was capable of, but he hasn’t gotten a chance at Swallows,” the source told FARPost.

The source further claimed the player had made it clear that he was desperate to play and doesn’t mind being sent on loan or sold to another club.

While at JDR, linked Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, he vowed he would beat Collins Mbesuma’s 25-goal single-season record if he signed for a PSL giant. The Zambian, nicknamed ‘Ntofontofo’, scored 35 goals in the 2004/05 Castle Premiership season in all competitions for Chiefs. 25 of those goals came in the league.

The closest person to challenge that record was Sundowns’ forward Peter Shalulile last season. The Namibian won the Golden Boot Award with 23 goals, falling two goals short of Mbesuma’s record.
