Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane is running the rule over four trialists as they look to fill in the number nine position.
Amakhosi discarded Samir Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro and Lazarous Kambole at the end of the 2021/22 season.
While they have managed to plug gaps in the other positions, the one area they still need to attend to is the centre-forward position.
The Soweto giants have already signed Zitha Kwinika, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, George Matlou, Dillon Solomons, Ashley du Preez, Yusuf Maart and Siyethemba Sithebe in the current transfer window. However, none of them is an outright number nine.
Newly appointed coach, Zwane, and his technical team have assessed four players. Burundian international Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, Stellenbosch FC striker Fuad Johnson, Wayde Lekay, released by TS Galaxy on Friday, and Sierra Leone striker Musa Kamara are all trying to impress Zwane.
Two Polokwane City players have revealed who was impressive for Amakhosi in their pre-season friendly played at the Ranch Resort on the outskirts of Polokwane.
The Soweto giants won the first two sets of 45 minutes on 1-0 scorelines before Rise and Shine won the third 3-2.
Bimenyimana, who caught the eye of Chiefs during a recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Namibia, scored the solitary goal in the second encounter.
“It was a well-struck goal; he chested it down, controlled, beat a defender and placed it beyond the reach of the goalkeeper. You can tell he’s a calm player and a good finisher with brilliant touches,” the Polokwane player told FARPost, adding that he was wearing jersey number seven.
Interestingly, a FARPost source at Chiefs said Zwane had been impressed by the Burundian, who also got a run when Chiefs played against Marumo Gallants at the Peter Mokaba Stadium over the weekend.
“If there’s one player the coach is likely to sign, it’s the Burundian. He has impressed the coach from the first day. It’s even easier because he’s a free agent,” added the source.
The 24-year-old Bimenyimana is a free agent after cutting ties with Kazakhstan Premier League side FC Kaysar in January. He spent several years plying his trade overseas, enjoying stints in Slovakia for FK Pohronie and Latvia for FK RFS.
