TS Galaxy star Msimango aims to inspire Brakpan youth

After his stoppage-time winner ensured TS Galaxy would be playing in the DStv Premiership next season, Given Msimango now shifted his focus to a new mission!

Galaxy ensured they would be playing in the top flight again next season after clinching a narrow 1-0 win over Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

The former youth international is determined to be a good role model and inspiration to the youth. Msimango grew up in Brakpan, where he believes that most young people do not reach their goals because of a lack of opportunities.

The talented defender is a guest speaker at a career day event set for May 29 organised by Lighthouse Family Church on the East Rand in Gauteng.

“I have never been a guest speaker at such a prestigious event for youth. It is a huge honour, especially because it is from my hometown. I think it is important to have such platforms for anyone who has a meaningful story to tell which will change someone’s life positively,” Msimango told FARPost.

The event, which takes place a few days before Youth Month rolls over in June, aims to inspire, encourage, and motivate young people with hopes of realising that their dreams are valid, no matter how long it may take.

The event organiser, Mpumi Msimango, explained that they saw it fit to bring the talented defender because the youth in the community could easily relate with him as someone who grew up there and has made it professionally.

“It is a small community, but there is a lot of potential,  and yet discouraging factors, but Given grew up here, and many people have followed his progress,” said Mpumi.

The defender, who is completing a business degree at the University of South Africa (UNISA), believes his life journey will be inspiring for many teenagers as he continues to study while playing football. “I am very thankful and cannot wait to share what I know and have learned in my journey. I have become a professional footballer and an academic simultaneously; therefore, it is fascinating,” he said.

“A lot of youth become depressed as a result of not knowing what to do because of the current economy and high unemployment rate. I am grateful for this platform and honoured to share the little knowledge I have obtained throughout the years as a professional footballer and trying to get my badges,” concluded the 25-year-old star.
