Sibusiso Vilakazi finds new home

TS Galaxy have acquired the services of a highly experienced frontman, Sibusiso Vilakazi.

‘Villa’, as he’s affectionately known, joins the Rockets as a free agent after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Bafana Bafana international will join Galaxy’s camp in Pietermaritzburg this coming weekend.

Earlier, today, the Mpumalanga-based outfit secured the signature of former Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo, who also joined as a free agent following his departure from AmaZulu.

The attacker is expected to help the Rockets in front of goals ahead of the new season.

He can operate as a number 10 or as an out-and-out striker.

A month ago, FARPost had gathered that Bafana Ba Style were mulling some players’ futures, with a few players expected to leave the club.

Vilakazi became the second Masandawana star to leave the side after the departure of George Maluleka, who recently joined AmaZulu.

His contract with Downs expired at the end of June, and the DStv Premiership champions decided not to exercise their option to extend.

The 32-year-old forward only made 11 appearances across all competitions for the Brazilians in the last term, only providing one assist. He joined the club in 2016 from Bidvest Wits.

It goes without a doubt that Vilakazi has been one of the most mesmerizing players at Chloorkop for the best part of a decade.

In the 2013/14 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season, he won the Player of the Season and Players’ player of the Season awards. He also won the Nedbank Cup Player of the tournament during that season.

He made his international debut for South Africa on 12 October 2013 in a 1–1 draw against Morocco at the Adrar Stadium.

Since the beginning of his football career, Villa has 12 major trophies under his belt – 5 league titles, 5 domestic cups, CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup.
