We could have easily scored four goals – Zwane

It was not the perfect start for Kaizer Chiefs’ new look side as Royal AM continued their dominance over them, beating them 1-0 at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban.

Nonetheless, newly appointed coach Arthur Zwane insists he took some positives from the game as they look to forget about the results and focus on the next game.

Amakhosi conceded very early in the game after Ricardo Nascimento scored from the corner kick less than two minutes from the start. The visitors had to chase the game until the end as they couldn’t convert those chances.

Zwane, tasked to return Amakhosi to glory, admitted they could have done better and feels this was a wake-up call for them. He vowed they would get one over Royal AM in the return leg.

“Lots of positives, it’s one game that at some point we could do everything in terms of creating opportunities, but the ball couldn’t go in. So yeah, that was an unfortunate part, but I think the boys did well but could’ve done better. We could’ve easily scored four. We had like four clear chances. It was a wake-up call for us,” Zwane told the media.

“There’s no doubt that in the return leg, we will get them. You could see on the game that we got them. We couldn’t allow them to play their normal game.”

The Soweto giants are back in Gauteng and take on Maritzburg United on Tuesday at the FNB Stadium at 7:30pm. They will be hoping to bounce back to winnings ways after the losing start.

Zwane started four new players against Royal AM. Zitha Kwinika and Ashley Du Preez, who joined them from Stellenbosch during the off-season were in the starting XI together with former Sekhukhune captain Yusuf Maart and Siyethemba Sithebe from AmaZulu.

Their opponents on Tuesday drew 1-1 with Sekhukhune at home on Sunday and will equally be eager to get maximum points when they visit Chiefs.
