We let the coaches do their job: Malatjie

Sekhukhune United CEO Jonas Malatjie has made assurances that management does not interfere in coaching affairs at the club.

This publication on Wednesday reported that Owen Da Gama had been axed for refusing to take orders on team selection issues from management. However, the publication did not get a comment from the club regarding the matter at the time of publishing.

FARPost has apologised to the club and spoke to the club supremo Malatjie who has cleared the air, stressing that team selection issues were entirely left to the technical team at the club.

“We never interfere in the selection of players; it’s the job of the technical team,” he told FARPost. Babina Noko announced the appointment of former SuperSport United Kaitano Tembo on Tuesday.

The former Zimbabwe international had been the subject of interest from his boyhood club Dynamos before accepting the Sekhukhune job.

He takes over as head coach while MacDonald Makhubedu, who previously shared the co-coaching responsibilities with Da Gama, was reassigned as a senior coach.

“Sekhukhune United Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Kaitano Tembo to the Technical Team of Sekhukhune United FC,” the club statement read.

“The former SuperSport United FC Head Coach will be working as a Head Coach for Babina Noko. Mr Tembo takes over the Head Coach position of the team following the appointment of Mr McDonald Makhubedu as the Senior Coach.”

Malatjie said they would give the technical team all the support ahead of the 2022/23 season. Da Gama was not available for comment at the time of publishing.
