‘We’ve to do better defensively’: Mngqithi

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has highlighted the team’s recent poor defensive record as the area of concern ahead of Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final against Marumo Gallants.

Masandawana have conceded six goals in their last three encounters, and Mngqithi stresses they will have to defend better to clinch the Nedbank Cup.

“It’s concerning, more especially the goals we conceded against Stellenbosch. That’s where I think we are all very unhappy about those three goals because they were emanating from situations that we’ve envisaged and situations that we’ve profiled the opposing and knew this is how they can hurt us. When they get two goals from that, it becomes very bad, and we were very unhappy with it,” said the former Golden Arrows coach.

“Kaizer Chiefs match, not much I can say about it and the Royal AM two matches. That is a high scoring team, we could have done better in defending those two goals, and I also think we could have scored more goals and killed the game earlier before it came to that point. Still, we are not that concerned, but as a team that does not like to concede, we are feeling bad.” added the 51-year-old tactician.

With the DStv Premiership trophy and MTN8 cup already in the cabinet, Sundowns will be looking to achieve a treble when they take on Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup final at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is at 18:00.
