Zambia’s Napsa stars hire Ponga as CEO

Football administrator and columnist Ponga Liwewe has been hired by promoted FAZ Super League club Napsa Stars as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Ponga will serve as the Lusaka clubs’ CEO on a three-year contract. He returns to Zambian football administration after serving as Football Association of Zambia General Secretary between 2016 and
2018.

“Liwewe, who has signed a contract with the Club for the next three years, takes over from Honor Janza who left the position in May last year, having served at the club for a season,” Napsa spokesperson Gwen
Chipasula said in a statement.

“The new CEO comes with a strong football background and wealth of experience, having served as general secretary at the Football Association of Zambia for two years.

“Liwewe also comes with vast experience in marketing, an area which the club has focused on in its quest to develop its business side. He served as marketing manager for international broadcasting company SuperSport for three years.”

And Napsa club board chairperson John Chundu said the club is looking forward to growing the club under Ponga. “We are very excited to welcome Mr. Liwewe to the NAPSA Stars family
as our new club CEO. We are confident as a club that this is a very good appointment looking at the football and marketing background Mr Liwewe has,” Chundu said.

“With our club looking at working on the area of financial sustainability, I am confident this is indeed a great appointment.”
