Zungu confirms Xoki, Mhango deals

AmaZulu supremo Sandile Zungu has confirmed that defender Tapelo Xoki will join Orlando Pirates next season, with Malawian forward Gabadinho Mhango set to join the Durban side.

Zungu told Ukhozi FM that Bucs chairman Irvine Khoza had reached out to him regarding the services of the 27-year-old defender.

“Dr Irvin Khoza did contact me personally about Thapelo Xoki, and we’ve spoken; I respect him for the way he handled it so that Xoki will leave us, he played his last game yesterday, and Gabadinho Mhango is joining us,” Zungu told the KZN radio station.

Tapelo Xoki joined Usuthu in 2014 and rose through the ranks to become an important member of the first team. Mhango, on the other hand, has struggled to break into the Pirates line-up this season, and FARPost recently reported that the Flames forward had reached an agreement with the club to let him go if a good offer comes.

Meanwhile, Usuthu have announced Brandon Truter as their new permanent coach. Truter was appointed on an interim basis in March following the sacking of Benni McCarthy.

He only lost once in the seven games he led the Durban club, helping them secure a top-eight finish.

“I can confirm that Brandon Truter has been given a permanent contract as first-team coach at AmaZulu FC. He has impressed us since taking over following the departure of Benni McCarthy in March. I can’t go into details about his contract but yes, Truter is our man,” said AmaZulu spokesman Phumlani Dube.
