Lepasa rates the just-ended season as his worst

Orlando Pirates attacker Zakhele Lepasa says the 2021/22 season was his worst after failing to get enough game time with the Soweto giants and succumbing to an injury.

Due to a lengthy ankle injury setback that kept him on the sidelines for a larger part of the season, the 25-year-old only made 10 appearances for the Buccaneers in all competitions, failing to find the back of the net and provided one assist.

“Personally, I don’t think I had a season; I don’t regard it as having a season because of the minutes I played and the chances I was given. It’s a discussion we always had with the coaches. It’s more of a personal matter than anything,” Lepasa told FARPost.

“Now I have that chance. It’s the offseason, and I have to work on myself first, then join the team. Seeing what is happening at the club, maybe new management is coming in. We still need to talk to those people and see what they want from you and what you are capable of because there are things I’m looking forward to.”

The former TS Galaxy forward is eyeing the preseason as an opportunity to get back 100% and to be fully fit ahead of the new campaign.

“I’m just looking forward to the preseason. I feel good. I feel like myself again. I think it will do me good because since I came back [from injury], I haven’t been given an opportunity to work on myself, try to have that speed, try to have more strength and study the game,” he added.
