Arrows claim deserved derby victory over AmaZulu

Golden Arrows returned to winning ways in the DStv Premiership following their 2-1 win over local rivals AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Usuthu, who displayed excellent game management in the opening stages of the showpiece, had numerous chances to break the deadlock, but luck was not on their side at the time.

However, a goal finally came in the 40th minute through Siphesihle Maduna who gave AmaZulu a lead.

In a turn of events, Velemseni Ndwandwe found an equaliser just two minutes after the restart.

The game went into the half-time break all square.

Back out for the remaining half, Abafana Bes’thende piled pressure on the hosts – taking control of proceedings, but largely failed to break down Brandon Truter’s back four.

As the second stanza progressed, the visitors continued to create more clear-cut chances to prevail Usuthu on their own turf.

But, Arrows managed to force AmaZulu’s defence into errors as Mbongeni Gumede fouled Nduduzo Sibiya in the box of which resulted into a penalty kick. Sibiya made no mistake as he stood up to convert the penalty in the 83rd minute.

The final whistle blew with Arrows claiming the KwaZulu-Natal Derby bragging rights and three points in the bag.
