Arthur Zwane: From ABC owner to Chiefs coach

Newly appointed Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has revealed his long journey to become a head coach of Amakhosi.

Zwane has spent over two decades with the Soweto giants as a player and coach. He has previously held the fort after the club fired coaches in the past two seasons.

“I had my own team that was campaigning in the then Vodacom League, now the ABC Motsepe League. When I was given the opportunity (to coach Kaizer Chiefs), I had to sell the status and focus on my career as a coach,” said Zwane.

“I was the second assistant coach in the first team. After two seasons, I was deployed to the U/17s under the chairman’s advice to learn more about different age groups. I was then promoted to the U/19s, then the reserve team.”

“Here I am today, those close to me. I must have told them eight years back that I’m working hard. I’m spending sleepless nights just to be a head coach (of Kaizer Chiefs). A head coach that will help the team win, not just to add numbers.”

‘10111’ further revealed that his career dream in football was to play for Amakhosi.

“I wanted to play for this team as a player because of their winning culture and their winning mentality. Those are the things that inspired me to work so hard that I will don the famous Kaizer Chiefs jersey. God gave me that power and strength to fulfil it. Here I am today,” he concluded.

And now, he is the man tasked with bringing back that winning the title and the former winger is confident he will do it.
