Arthur Zwane names ‘perfect striker’ for Kaizer Chiefs’ rebuild

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane has held no punches in diagnosing the club’s problems that have seen Amakhosi go seven years without major silverware. Repeatedly, the former Chiefs winger has said some players at the club “are not good enough” to don the gold and black strip.

Following the team’s 2-2 draw against relegation-threatened Swallows on Saturday, ‘10111’ picked out two strikers that could fit into a new look Chiefs and make a massive impact. Currently, the Soweto giants have Samir Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro, Lazarous Kambole and Bernard Parker in their striking arsenal.

After the 2-2 draw against Swallows left them out of contention for CAF inter-club competitions for the 2022/23 campaign Arthur Zwane admitted that many of the current players aren’t good enough.

Admitting that it would be a challenge to get their targets as a club, he singled out Victor Letsoalo as the type of striker suited for the club

“Is Victor Letsoalo the type of player who can play for Kaizer Chiefs, the answer is YES, but can we get him?” The Royal AM forward has scored 14 goals, six of those penalties, this season and is second-highest scorer in the domestic league.

He went on to acknowledge that the most ideal would be Mamelodi Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile, who would be difficult to prize away from the DStv Premiership championship. Shalulile leads the top scorers’ chart with 22 goals this season.

“How many strikers do we have in the country right now that have scored more than Peter Shalulile? Can you get Peter Shalulile from Sundowns? No.”

He then picked Cameroonian Eva Nga as “the only one player that is trying [to keep up with Shalulile] maybe it’s Eva Nga”. However, he questioned whether the Chippa star, who has scored 10 goals [non of them is a penalty], was Chiefs’ material. “Is he the type of player we’re looking for? It remains to be seen,” he concluded.
