Baxter explains Mshini’s absence and defensive approach

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo was a notable absentee as Kaizer Chiefs were held to a goalless draw against Cape Town in a league game on Tuesday night at the DHL Stadium.

But Stuart Baxter has explained why the talented midfielder was missing.

“We change personnel a little bit, we wanted a little bit of fresh legs. Mshini has got a bacterial infection so he couldn’t play,” said Baxter.

“We sort of created a little role for Mshini, because he’s been doing so well in that little number 10 in the pocket role.

The Englishman also stated that he used seven defensive players to create width through Amakhosi’s wing-backs against CT City.

“Well, we changed our shape because looking at the setup of Cape Town City, we thought the playing with that extreme width that the wing-backs Reeve [Frosler] and Ramahlwe [Mphahlele] would give us that would be better,” added Baxter.

“So, I think all in all the changes had a positive effect. But when you don’t win the game, you’re not completely happy.”
