Chiefs-bound Kwinika wants to end Stellies stint in style

Kaizer Chiefs-bound defender Zitha Kwinika wants to end his Stellenbosch FC stint in style when they clash with Cape Town City in a Mother City derby on Saturday. Earlier this week, Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker confirmed at the club’s season-end function that the talented defender was headed for Naturena.

Having been at Stellies for the last two seasons, Kwinika knows how important that derby is, and the club’s 2021/22 Footballer of the Season and Player’s Player of the Season is not ready to end it on a losing note.

“If we win the derby, we have the bragging rights; no one wants to lose a derby game. It will be an interesting way to end the season. We’re happy; it will be a good one; we’ll give it our best,” Kwinika said.

However, he is aware that City have been on a steady rise since the start of the year and could potentially finish second if they win Saturday’s tie. City are unbeaten in 14 matches. Of course, for Zitha and his teammates, there is the incentive of completing a derby double on their rivals.

“It’s a Cape derby, it’s an interesting one, but it won’t be an easy game taking into account that first game we beat them, the only home game they lost this season,” Kwinika said.

“It will be interesting; they have their ambitions, fighting for the second spot. We are in the top eight; the possibility is that we can go in the top four if we win.”

City and the Stellies are second and fifth on the DStv Premiership standings, with only one game left before the curtain comes down on the 2021/22 season.
