Parker to bounce back at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that they will sit down with the veteran striker Benard Parker to look at options of “bringing him on board” in a different capacity as his contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of this month.

An announcement is expected to be made in due course.

This comes after Amakhosi released 10 players, making up almost 30% of the squad before the 2022/23 season, with Parker included.

According to the club, this gives them ample time to explore alternative options while also giving the Glamour Boys’ technical team latitude to assess the squad and plan for the next season.

‘Die Hond’, as he’s popularly known within football cycles, leaves the side after 11 years, having joined them back in 2011 from the Eredivisie side, FC Twente.

Ever since joining Amakhosi, he played 359 matches, weighed in 42 assists and scored 62 goals across all competitions – making him the club’s all-time leading scorer in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era.

The 36-year-old frontman helped the Soweto giants to win four major trophies, including two league titles.

Following Chiefs players’ mass exodus last week, the club have already secured the services of defender Zitha Kwinika and forward Ashley Du Preez, with more recruits expected to be announced soon.
