Chippa come from behind to beat Arrows

Golden Arrows failed to build on Pule Mmodi’s early goal as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Chippa United in the DStv Premiership encounter at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Abafana Bes’thende showed some elements of hunger and determination to win the game from the start, with the side breaking the deadlock in the 1st minute of the contest through Mmodi.

The KwaZulu-Natal outfit continued to take control of possession and moving forward in numbers searching for a second goal, but couldn’t convert their possession into goals.

As the half wore on, the Chilli Boys regained momentum and began to take the game to their opponents.

Chippa were eventually rewarded for their persistency and doggedness as Siphesihle Mkhize levelled matters for the visitors in the 39th minute.

The showdown went into the half-time break level.

At the resumption of the second stanza, the home side made a frantic effort to add to the scoreline but the Chippa’s defence dealt brilliantly with their attacks.

However, the unfazed Kurt Lentjies’ side pushed forward in an attempt to score a winner as Arrows appeared a little more conservative in the second period.

When we thought the game will end in a 1-all draw, Sandile Mthethwa finally scored a winner in the 89th minute to put the visitors in front.

All efforts for Arrows to score an equaliser proved abortive as Chippa claimed all vital three points.

The victory sees the Chilli Boys move to 13th place on the log standings with 20 points, whereas Arrows sit 11th on the table with 25 points.
