Chippa slapped with Fifa transfer ban

Augustine Kwem’s agent, Johhny Ogbah, has revealed that the DStv Premiership side Chippa United has been banned by Fifa from signing and registering players.

This comes after the Chilli Boys failed to pay an outstanding amount of R200 000 of Kwem’s signing-on fee.

Kwem joined Chippa back in July 2019 until he left the side last year in July for TS Galaxy.

Ogbah divulged that they took the Gqeberha-based outfit to the world football governing body with the hope that the club will pay out the remaining singing-on fee balance.

“I spoke to Simon (Chippa) again before going back to Fifa and he promised to pay the money on a certain date but no money has come,” Ogbah told SA FM.

“So we thought if we go to Fifa they will pay. Right now the ban says they can’t sign any players in the next transfer window.

“We see this all the time in football. But the player doesn’t want the club to suffer and neither do I, so they just need to pay.

“If they make the payment now, then we will inform Fifa and the ban will be lifted immediately.”

The Eastern Cape side are not the first local club to be banned from signing players. Kaizer Chiefs, Bloemfontein Celtic and Marumo Gallants have had Fifa bans imposed on them in recent times.
