Folz explains why Marumo need to sign more players

Romain Folz took charge of his first official match for Marumo Gallants during their 0-0 draw against Stellenbosch in a DStv Premiership match at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, and he has explained why the club needs to sign more players.

Folz, who is the youngest coach on the league at 32, was recently appointed to take over from Dan Malesela.

The Frenchman was pleased with how his players applied his tactics on the day but believes they desperately need to beef up the squad before the transfer window closes.

“We need additions in the offensive department, also Maybe the cover options in our defence line in case we get an injury, knowing the amount of games coming with CAF [Confederations Cup],” he said.

“So we will need to beef up the squad not because people are not doing well but you need to prevent injuries and that’s the best way to have a competitive squad in every position,” added Folz.

On what he made of his first match, the former Township Rollers mentor says he was humbled to be in the biggest League on the continent.

“It was good, a football game wherever you are is always a football game. So you only need to focus on your task but I am very happy, humbled and honoured to be in such a league, which is the biggest league in Africa, so yes, it’s a very good experience. Happy to be here.”

Bahlabani ba Ntwa will now travel to King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium to take on newcomers Richards Bay on Tuesday evening, in their second match of the season. The KZN side started off the season with a 2-0 derby win over neighbours Golden Arrows.

The 2021/22 GladAfrica champions will be hoping to keep their place in the to maintain their place in the topflight.
