How Malesela instilled a winning habit at Marumo

Marumo Gallants coach Dan Malesela insists there has been a change of mentality from the players since he took charge.

Malesela helped Gallants advance to the Nedbank Cup semifinals after a 1-0 win against neighbours Baroka at Peter Mokaba Stadium last weekend.

Gallants seem likely to avoid relegation with six matches remaining. Since taking over from Sebastien Migne in November last year, Malesela took charge of 20 games, winning 10, drawing five and losing five times.

“No (there were no targets set) it was about winning our matches, getting into the habit of winning. That was the first thing that was supposed to happen,” said Malesela.

“Now that these things have come up, now we can say we need to focus on what we need to do. Like I always say, I want us to be grateful for having a season like this.

“To look back and say we did this as opposed to saying here is a season and we did nothing. Every time we want to win. When we lose, it’s like there is a funeral, and they know how I fume,” he said.
