Stellies complete DStv Prem double over Chiefs

Stellenbosch FC claimed a 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership clash at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday evening.

Amakhosi looked bright in the early stages of the showdown as they pushed forward in numbers, but were unable to find a breakthrough against the resilient Cape club.

However, Stellies improved as the half wore on, and broke the deadlock in the 20th minute through Van Rooyen.

The Soweto giants tried to pull one back, but luck was not on their side.

The game went into the interval with the home side leading by 1-0.

Back out for the last 45 minutes, the showpiece got off to a cagey start, as both sides struggled to find any real momentum.

As the second stanza progressed, the Glamour Boys piled pressure on the hosts – taking control of proceedings, but largely failed to break down Stellies’ back four.

Chiefs, needed something to lift the tension and the signs were encouraging as they grew increasingly into the match – searching for an equaliser. However, it was never meant to be.

The final whistle blew, and it sealed a deserved victory for Steve Barker’s men, who fought hard throughout the game and might have won the game with more goals.
