I guess I’ll go into the history books of SA football – Shalulile

Mamelodi Sundowns hitman Peter Shalulile believes that his consistent performances will pave the way for him to go down into the history books of South African football.

This is after the Namibian international was named the DStv Premier League Player of the Month for April.

Shalulile, who banged back-to-back hat-tricks against Golden Arrows and Swallows in April and helped his side reach the Nedbank Cup final, lauded his teammates for his excellent run in the top flight.

“To be honest, winning the DStv player of the month for April, I would first like to give glory to God [because] He made it possible as well as my teammates and everyone at Sundowns,” said the 28-year-old lethal frontman.

“It’s a great feeling. It’s overwhelming to receive such an award because everyone put in the hard work, from the technical team to the players and the Mamelodi Sundowns family and fans. I am really happy to receive this award, and I am hoping for many more to come.”

So far, he has scored 22 league goals in the current campaign for Bafana Ba style, and he is now three goals shy from breaking Collins Mbesuma’s long-standing of 25 league goals in a season.

However, Shalulile is left with one game to break Mbesuma’s record when Masandawana takes on Royal Am in their final match of the DStv Premiership on Saturday, 21 May at Chatsworth Stadium.

On his performances, the goal poacher said: “In the month of April, I managed to score two hat tricks back to back against Swallows and Arrows, and it was really an amazing feeling. I guess I will go down into the history of South African football.”

“To the Masandawana family, the fans and everyone who supports us, I would like to thank them first and foremost for attending our games because they’ve come through for us and packed the stadium even during the difficult moments. They stood with us, and as we are about to go and lift the trophy, I would like to urge everyone to come and witness and enjoy the day with us.”
