Kudakwashe Mahachi on Maritzburg United’s radar

Speedy Zimbabwean winger Kudakwashe Mahachi looks set to finally restart his career in the DStv Premiership, with Maritzburg United emerging as his likely destination.

The 29-year-old had his SuperSport United contract terminated after he was accused of attempting to end his 4-year-old son’s life.

However, in November, he was acquitted of the attempted murder charges he was facing in Zimbabwe. The development hands him another chance to restart his career.

The Zimbabwean international had been linked with a return to former Zimbabwean champions Chicken Inn.

But Maritzburg have emerged as favourites to give him a fresh start after his fall from grace.

His manager Gibson Mahachi was reserved in his comments about the Maritzburg links. He, however, revealed that an announcement about his next move is imminent.

“He deserves another chance as everyone else does. We all know that he is still a good player who we deserve to watch again.

“I can’t say anything at this point because we haven’t concluded the due processes. But as soon as we are done, we will gladly reveal it.

“Several clubs have expressed interest in him, but at the end of everything, we have to settle for a club that we think can help him regain his confidence to perform to the best of his abilities,” he said.

WATCHED FROM THE STANDS

Meanwhile, Kudakwashe Mahachi watched from the stands on Friday as Maritzburg United suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of TS Galaxy in their backyard.

It will come as no surprise if the move materializes, especially since Gibson Mahachi is the one that also engineered Tawanda Macheke’s move to Maritzburg.

Moreso, coach Fadlu Davids will likely be excited by adding the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns winger to his team.

Macheke was the last Zimbabwean player to join the DStv Premiership before the massive purging ahead of this season’s start.
