Manaka’s passion to empower his community

The winners of the fourth edition of the Edgar Makana soccer tournament were crowned at Nkhumishe Carnivorous sports grounds at Kgomo School, Ga-Matlala on Tuesday.

The four-day tournament is hosted annually by the Marumo Gallants midfielder at his home village.

Besides the football tournament, the foundation is also involved in charity work where they donate school shoes to local schools.

“From the beginning the dream has been the same, Charity begins at home. We want to unearth professional players and that has always been my dream and the vision,” Manaka told FARPost at the tournament venue on Wednesday.

“This is a family event because we also have entertainment. This project is not for me but for young people from here, even when I am long gone it will always remain here.

“We need to give people a chance especially because we are born in a community where people are disadvantaged.”

FC Inter from Maratapelo Ga-Chuene were crowned Champions after beating Dibeng Pirates Dibeng Ga-Matlala 1-0 in the final.

They walked away with R30 000.
