Marumo geared up for Sundowns Nedbank battle

Marumo Gallants goalkeeper King Ndlovu is confident that his club is capable of causing an upset in the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Saturday.

Gallants are considered the underdogs against a Masandawana side gunning for their third trophy of the season.

Ndlovu has been in fine form for the Limpopo club and was rewarded with a nomination for the Nedbank Cup Player of the tournament alongside Sundowns duo of Andile Jali and Aubrey Modiba.

“It’s the trophy (that motivates us). We all want to end the season with some sort of silverware. The guys did it last year, so we strongly believe that we can do it again,” Ndlovu told the media on Tuesday at the club’s training grounds.

“Everybody is looking forward to the final. It’s a big game; it’s the ultimate game for us and the last game of the season, so we are going to give a good fight.”

The 29-year-old also spoke on the Nomination for the tournament’s top award.

“It feels very nice to be nominated amongst infield players. I am a goalkeeper, and it’s not easy, so I feel really proud of myself. Being the only player from Marumo Gallants to be nominated makes me really proud of myself because I think I did really well.

“When you are nominated, it means that you stand a chance, so I strongly believe we will pull up a good fight, but the most important thing is the team. We have to win the trophy first, and individual accolades come after,” he said.
