Mathoho maintains Chiefs are still in the title race

Kaizer Chiefs defender Eric Mathoho believes the club still has a chance to fight for the DStv Premiership title this season.

Chiefs are currently fifth on the log with 29 points, 19 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chiefs have four matches in hand.

Amakhosi are up against relegation threatened Baroka at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.

“From my point of view I can’t say the league is gone already because there are still matches to play,” said Mathoho.

“Anything can happen from the remaining games. What I mean is that other teams will drop points so we need to push hard and make sure that we win the remaining games then we can see after the last match of the season,” he added.

The 31-year-old remains cautious of a wounded Bakgaga side that sits bottom of the log.

“Playing against Baroka is not easy for us but our preparations have been good. We are just waiting for the match on Saturday.

“But this is a big game for us and that is the mentality we have. They always make it difficult for us everytime we meet them.”
