Mngqithi wary of Larsen’s best quality

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi hailed Clinton Larsen’s ability to win against the odds ahead of their Nedbank Cup quarter-final tie on Saturday evening.

Masandawana will welcome Summerfield Dynamos at Loftus Versfeld Stadium with the kick off set for 18:00.

Mngqithi claims that the KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe League outfit have become masters at finding a way to win and warned his players to avoid the same fate as Uthongathi FC and Black Eagles.

He went on to say that resilience is a hallmark of Larsen’s team.

The fact that the Summerfield squad boasts of former Premier Soccer League (PSL) and GladAfrica Championship players is one of Mngqithi’s biggest concerns.

“We have profiled the team and we realised that they have former Premier League players in their team, some of them I have worked with like Nene (Jabulani), Zuke (Sandile) and Manzini (Lerato) who spent some time with Royal AM and spent more time at Bloemfontein Celtic,” Mngqithi told the media.

“The number of games that they have played in their league is not very helpful as you know they have age restrictions but when it comes to the Nedbank Cup they are bringing a different team with a lot of experienced players.

“In Clinton Larsen, they have a very capable coach who has had a couple of upsets when it comes to Mamelodi Sundowns.

“If you remember when he was at Bloemfontein Celtic in the Telkom Knockout Cup, remember the MTN 8 at Lucas Moripe and we are very aware that we are coming up against a very experienced coach and we need to tread very carefully.

“However, we are confident that we will have to give it our best shot and compete on the day.”
