Mosele on how Pirates’ new coach wants them to play

Orlando Pirates midfielder Goodman Mosele has revealed how the new coach wants them to play.

Spaniard Jose Riveiro was named Buccaneers coach last month and has the insurmountable task of reviving the team. He has been in charge of the team’s pre-season training as they gear up for the 2022/23 season.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder, Mosele, who had a decent maiden season at Pirates, is confident the club can turn the corner under the new coach.

“The good thing is that we have the same objective now as a team, the coach wants results, and he’s someone who likes attacking football. He likes his team to play on the front foot and defend as a unit.

“With the quality we have at the team, I’m confident that in the next season, we will see a different Orlando Pirates,” said a confident Mosele at Bucs’ official jersey launch on Thursday.

Despite reaching the CAF Confederation final and losing on penalties to Moroccan side RS Berkane, the Buccaneers had an underwhelming season on the local front. They finished sixth on the DStv Premiership log last season.
Mosele joined the Sea Robbers at the beginning of the last campaign with a significant pedigree after winning the Young Player of The Season award in the 2020/21 season.

The 22-year-old central midfielder made 19 appearances under co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fladlu Davids. He scored three goals from a deep-lying position and contributed one assist.

“My first season at Pirates was good, but it was tough initially because Baroka was the only professional team I played for, and I didn’t know many people. I only knew Collins Makgaka when I arrived here, but I adapted and started playing more,” he said.

The former Baroka captain shared his thoughts on the new signings, including his former teammate at Bakgakga Evidence Makgopa. “The new players are quality, that’s why they were signed, but you know at Pirates, there are many quality players, and the fight for the starting line-up is tough, so they will have to work hard,” he concluded.

The Soweto giants also signed Nkosinathi Sibisi from Golden Arrows, Tapelo Xoki from AmaZulu and Eva Nga from Chippa United.

They kick-start the season with the Soweto derby against Swallows FC on the 6th of August.
