Ngezana not at Chiefs to add numbers

Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana has overcome his challenges with injuries and says he is eager to stake a claim in the team.

After a long-term injury, the bulky Chiefs defender is happy to be back on the Amakhosi team.

“It’s not about individuals, but I am happy I am back to add something to the team,” said Ngezana.

“I’m not just here to add numbers; I’m pushing myself hard to be consistent and to help the team to win games.

“It is up to me to push myself, and things will fall into place,” added Ngezana, who joined Amakhosi as a Youth Development Academy player at the age of 17.  He spent two years in the junior structures before being promoted to the senior team, where he scored on his debut against Mamelodi Sundowns in October 2017.

The 24-year-old defender also urged the Soweto giants to forget about the defeat to SuperSport United and try to “rectify their mistakes” when they face Stellenbosch in the Cape on Saturday.

“We will rebuild against Stellenbosch. We hope to finish the season on a high note. That’s the only thing we can do now. The Stellenbosch game will be crucial for us. It’s an away game, but we are looking to return home with three points,” he said.

“Against Stellenbosch, we need to rectify our mistakes. If we manage to keep a clean sheet at the back, we would be doing our job as defenders.”

The game takes place on Saturday at Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch. Kick-off is at 17:00.
