Nurkovic says injury spell was painful

Samir Nurkovic is expected to make his long-awaited return to action when Kaizer Chiefs play against TS Galaxy in a Nedbank Cup Last 32 encounter on Saturday.

Nurkovic sidelined since September with a knee injury, said he is excited to be back in training and admitted that it was ‘painful’ to watch from the stands, especially when he felt he could make a telling contribution.

The Serbian hitman underwent surgery at the start of the campaign and has only featured in five matches across all competitions this season.

“I am really happy to be finally back, on the pitch with the boys. We are working hard, preparing for the next match, Nedbank Cup. We are ready,” said Nurkovic.

He picked up the injury in last season’s Caf Champions League semifinal against Wydad Casablanca.

“I am still working hard to get to the best possible shape, where I used to be and that requires a lot of work, but I will get there soon,” added Nurkovic.

“It was painful watching all these games from the sidelines, TV… so I can’t wait to be back and make the Amakhosi fans happy again.”
