Nyatama thrilled with club’s new signings

Swallows FC player-coach Musa Nyatama says he is thrilled by the displays and performances new club signings have shown so far.

On Tuesday evening, Musa Nyatama led the team again as coach Dylan Kerr is still waiting for his work permit. The Dube Birds handed Cape Town City their second successive defeat, winning the five-goal thriller 3-2.

All Swallows goals were scored by the club’s new acquisitions, Waseem Isaacs, Lindokuhle Mtshali and Tshediso Patjie, as they registered their first victory of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

“I’m happy with Waseem [Isaacs], first goal of the season, first goal of the team. I think going forward, we’ll do well, we still have Evans Rusike and Mwape Musonda, so I think there will be a lot of improvement in terms of strike force this season,” Musa Nyatama told the media.

“He [Lindokuhle Mtshali] is a great finisher, taking a penalty, there was pressure, but he put his hand up then we said take it if you feel like you will score. I’m just happy for him, scoring a winning goal for us.”

“[Thakasani Mbanjwa] It’s his first season in the PSL. He’s been doing well for AmaTuks, if you remember, last season he was the one helping out at Tuks. Big up to him; he should continue doing a great job for us.”

The former Orlando Pirates player further revealed that defender Keegan Allan is close to making his debut for the club after missing out two matches.

“Keegan [Allan] is not far from starting, we wanted to play him instead of Wandisile [Letlabika], but we needed the experience of Wandi, his command at the back. But he’s not far to getting into the team,” he added.

Up next for the Soweto outfit is an away match against Maritzburg United who are in search of their first league victory of the season following a draw and defeats respectively.

John Maduka’s charges suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of marauding Chiefs. Kickoff on Friday at Harry Gwala Stadium is at 19:30.
