PSL attacking duo teams up for financial literacy podcast

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Kermit Erasmus and his Cape Town City counterpart Mpho Makola have partnered to host a podcast that will offer fellow footballers financial literacy lessons.

FARPost can exclusively reveal that the former Orlando Pirates team-mates hope the podcast would improve footballers’ financial welfare by sharing tips on sound investments and prudent spending of money.

“We have decided with Makola to start a podcast to tackle all challenges faced by footballers. We will be tackling issues to do with financial education, the relationship between players and agents, and we’ll look into players’ personal lives,” Erasmus tells FARPost.

He added that the podcast would also tap into players’ personal lives to keep fans up to speed on what their favourite stars get up to when they are off the field.

“We are not trying to hammer anyone but to make sure that up-and-coming players don’t endure the same struggles that we faced,” the Sundowns forward said.

With the shooting of the ‘debut’ podcast done and set to air on YouTube on a date yet to be confirmed, the Gqeberha-born star confirmed the identity of the first guest for the show.

“We just need to agree on the dates, but I can tell you that our first guest will be George Lebese, who is a perfect example of glitz and glamour off the field and talent on the field,” the former SuperSport United talisman said.

The 31-year-old centre-forward, who struggled due to injuries at Sundowns last season, hopes for a better showing this campaign.

Erasmus made only nine appearances and scored once for Masandawana last season, whereas Makola netted once in 23 games for City.

Bibo’s contribution to the cause of City was enough to earn him a one-year contract extension. In the meantime, the two would want to help their teams excel during the current season that kicked off on Friday. Interestingly, their teams faced off on Friday and the match ended 2-0 in favour of Sundowns.
