PSL labelled ‘dream destination’ by former Pirates star Justin Shonga

Former Orlando Pirates star Justin Shonga has yet to give up on making a return to the DStv Premiership, a league he believes is a ‘dream destination’ for many African players.

Shonga returned to Zambia to rejoin his boyhood club Nkwazi after being offloaded by Sekhukhune United at the end of 2021/22 season.

The Chipolopolo international, Shonga, was in the books of Zambian Premier League outfit Nkwazi before leaving the Lusaka-based side in 2017 to join Pirates.

During his time with the Buccaneers, the goal poacher scored 16 goals and chipped in with 16 assists in 77 games played in all competitions, including in the CAF Champions League.

JUSTIN SHONGA OPTIMISTIC ON PSL RETURN

Despite Shonga’s stay in South Africa being marred by disciplinary issues, the attacker is still optimistic of playing in the Premiership.

“Obviously it’s every players dream to play in the Premier Soccer League,” Shonga told FARPost.

“I played in South Africa, so I know how big it is to be part of that league.

“Every player on the African continent always wishes to play in the PSL, so it’s no different with me.

“If there could be offers then I will be happy to return to South Africa because it’s the highest level.

“We’ll just wait until there’s an opportunity to go back.

“Even though it’s nice to be back home in Zambia but I would still love to play in the the PSL.”

When asked what transpired upon being released by Babina Noko, Shonga remained tight-lipped.

“I really can’t say much about Sekhukhune, nothing really happened there so we just came to a decision to part ways,” he briefly added.

In the previous campaign with the Sekhukhune, the 26-year-old forward scored two goals and provided one assist in 10 appearances.

He has had a dream start to his second stint with Nkwazi as he has managed to score five goals for the club.

Shonga also had stints at Cape Town City and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) in SA.
