Romain Folz not bothered by Gallants’ winless streak

Marumo Gallants head coach Romain Folz has opted to look at their winless streak positively rather than as a concern.

Gallants have played to three DStv premiership draws in their opening three matches of the season. They have also scored just one goal.

Marumo’s last three match results: 1-1 v Golden Arrows, 0-0 v Richards Bay and 0-0 v Stellenbosch.

They have also not won in their last 12 matches, stretching from last season. But the Frenchman says the fact that no club has been able to beat them also means it’s a positive way to look at their recent results.

“I am not worried about that, on the fact that we did three draws in a row. You can look at it in different ways. You can look at it with the fact that no one has been able to beat us, or you can look at it that we have not been able to win as yet,” said Folz.

“I think we are closer to winning, and we are able to identify what we need to fix going into the next game, and we will do as we always do and try to improve and rectify the small mistakes that we made.”

The 32-year-old insists it was a matter of time before the club opened its scoring account of the season.

“No, it’s not that I am happy that we are finally scoring. I knew it was coming, and I knew we had the quality to create chances. If we are only sharp in front of the goals, we could have scored three minimum today,” he said.

“It’s not only an issue of decision-making for me. It’s also an issue of technique in front of goals. All the players I have are more than capable of finishing those chances; it’s just a matter of the pressure that comes with the moment.”
