Rulani Mokwena expels two technical team members at Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has expelled two technical team members from the senior team.

The expulsions that have been kept hush-hush happened during the club’s recent Polokwane training camp.

The defending DStv Premiership champions spent time in Limpopo during the FIFA World Cup break.

SUNDOWNS COACHING DUO SENT PACKING

While in Polokwane, the duo of Riedoh Berdien and Marcus Mashilo were sent back to Chloorkop, leaving the team to continue with its preparations in Limpopo.

Berdien serves as fitness and conditioning coach, while Mashilo is the club’s assistant goalkeepers’ coach.

“They had to come back from Polokwane following the expulsion. It’s not clear what exactly happened in the camp.

“All we know is that whatever happened left the coach uncomfortable.

“We are yet to hear what will happen to them, but they are yet to rejoin the team,” a source told FARPost.

This publication can confirm the two have not been part of the team’s preparations for the league restart.

Sundowns returned to training on Monday after breaking briefly for Christmas. However, the two were not part of the session as they await to hear their fate.

“They may have to go to the academy, but that all depends on whether they agree to the demotion,” added the source.

In November, Mokwena was appointed sole head coach after sharing the co-coaching responsibility with Manqoba Mngqithi for two seasons.

TASKED TO TAKE DOWNS TO THE NEXT LEVEL

He has been tasked to take the club to the next level. Under his tutelage, Sundowns have started well, winning all their games.

They collected four wins, scoring 15 goals without conceding. Sundowns also lifted the Carling Black Label Cup after thumping 10-man Orlando Pirates 4-0.

Interestingly, when the season restarts next week, he guides Sundowns against his former team Orlando Pirates at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

A win for Sundowns will set the tone for the rest of the season. Sundowns are gunning for their sixth successive league title and the CAF Champions League.
